Translation for Booster 20: Code:Samsara - Blessing Sky, as well as the majority of new PR (sans the upcoming kuji & t-shirt PR) are now available. The set number redirects will be available in the following weekend. In addition, the Playing Manual has been updated with the addition of Token rules.
As usual, don't hesitate to notify if there's some error or inconsistency in the translation, especially for grammar.
This is very late, but some (if not most) of the wording on the card translations has been fixed to the proper English wording. Apologize for the late fixes.
In addition, we still have a major translation problem for the names of Dingir and their associated cards. Specifically, translation for the term inside the 『』 bracket in the Japanese name. While some of the terms are proper nouns, a number of them are either made up words or contains various meanings that make them hard to translate.
The main goal is to fix and translate those terms into a single noun (compounds are okay) in order to follow the original name pattern and to have some have consistency between them. Below are lists of the Gods, terms associated with them, current translations, and the proposed fixes.
Encounter with the Dynamis
- Innana - 『僥倖』 "Gyōkō" - "Luck"
- Direct translation. Most likely unchanged, or changed to "Windfall".
- Nammu - 『源海』 "Genkai" - "Primeval Sea"
- Direct translation, and also a reference to the original myth. Either changed to "Primalsea", "Primesea", or any possible suggestion.
- Sud - 『高潔』 "Kōketsu" - "Nobility"
- Direct translation. Most likely unchanged.
- Ahhazu - 『悪疾』 "Akushitsu" - "Malignant"
- A somewhat poor translation since it specifically refers to "malignant disease". Either stay or changed to "Malignancy" or "Disease".
- Ninurta - 『豊沃』 "Hōyoku" - "Fertility"
- Direct translation. Most likely unchanged.
- Nergal - 『天道』 "Tendō" - "Celestial Path"
- Direct translation, and also one of the possible meanings. Either changed to "Sun" (direct translation and a reference to one of Nergal's aspect in the myth), "Heavensway/Heavenspath", "Skyway/Skypath", or something along those lines.
- Marduk - 『王威』 "Ōi" - "Authority"
- Compound of "king" (王) and "authority" (威), also homophones with "throne" (王位). Most likely unchanged.
- Anu - 『裁決』 "Saiketsu" - "Decision"
- Direct translation, and also one of the possible meanings. Most likely unchanged, although "Adjudication" and "Judgement" is not bad either.
- Ereshkigal - 『冥滅』 "Meimetsu" - "Dark Ruin"
- A somewhat literal translation. The character is also a wordplay and homophones of "flicker" (明滅) with the character for "dark" (冥) replacing the character for "bright" (明). Either changed to "Flicker" to keep the wordplay or stayed as "Darkruin".
- Ishtar - 『恵愛』 "Kei'ai" - "Affection"
- Compound of "favor" (恵) and "love" (愛), also homophones with "respect and affection" (敬愛). Most likely unchanged.
Chain Betrayal
- Igalima - 『苛烈』 "Karetsu" - "Severity"
- Direct translation. Most likely unchanged.
- Ningal - 『星海』 "Seikai" - "Star Sea"
- Direct translation. Changed slightly to "Starsea".
- Ninkasi - 『勝宴』 "Shōen" - "Victory Banquet"
- Direct translation. Shortened to just "Banquet".
- Shulshagana - 『鋼槌』 "Kōtsui" - "Steel Hammer"
- Direct translation. Changed slightly to "Steelhammer".
- Nannal - 『与幻』 "Yogen" - "Phantasm"
- The best equivalent. May or may not be changed.
- Nanaya - 『壊做』 "Kaisaku" - "Destroy-and-Regenerate"
- The hardest and most problematic one. The character is a compound of "destroy" (壊) and "make" (做), it also homophones with "masterpiece" (快作) and "last and first days of the month" (晦朔) among any other. Furthermore, it is said in a feature that the name has the meaning of "destruction" and "regeneration" (「破壊」と「再生」), hence the current translation. Still cracking over the suitable term for this one (earlier translation have it translated as "Break-and-Make").
- Tiamat - 『命働』 "Meidō" - "Cadence"
- Wordplay and homophones of "cadence" (鳴動) with the character for "command", "life", "destiny" (命) over the character for "chirp" or "cry" (鳴). Most likely unchanged.
- Lulu - 『創造』 "Sōzō" - "Creation"
- Direct translation. Most likely unchanged.
- Zababa - 『誓約』 "Seiyaku" - "Pledge"
- Direct translation, and also one of the possible meanings. Either stay or changed to "Vow" or "Covenant" (the other possible meanings).
- Shamash - 『陽燦』 "Yōsan" - "Sunshine"
- Compound of "sun" (陽) and "brilliance" (燦), hence the translation. May or may not be changed.
Others
- Lahamu - 『沈泥』 "Chindei" - "Silt"
- Direct translation. Most likely unchanged.
- Lamastu - 『兇拐』 "Kyōkai" - "Abduction"
- Compound of "wicked" (兇) and "kidnap" (拐). May or may not be changed.
- Ninhursag - 『倒絡』 "Tōraku" - "Entwine"
- Compound of "fall" (倒) and "entwine" (絡), also homophones with "bridle" or "halter" (頭絡). Still cracking for other suitable terms, one of it being "Leash".
- Anshar-Kishar - 『鎮頂』 "Chinchō"
- Newest promo for Card Gamer magazine. The character is a compound of "weight", "town", "tranquilize" (鎮) and "summit" (頂). Temporarily translated as "Preeminence" due to them being principle gods and parents of Anu in the myth.
This is everything for now. If you have any other thoughts and/or suggestion about the Dingir names, please discuss it here. As usual, don't hesitate to report any kind of error and inconsistency on the translations.
Someone told me you can't, but I don't see anything in the rules against this. Can anyone confirm?
Card Gallery pages are now located into the Gallery:PAGENAME instead of PAGENAME/Gallery. All existing Card Gallery has been moved to the new location.
In addition, the following sub-pages has been added to the card pages:
- FAQ (located in FAQ:PAGENAME)
- Errata (located in Errata:PAGENAME)
- Trivia (located in Trivia:PAGENAME)
To accommodate these changes, {{Navigation}} has been updated as well. Feel free to fill these pages accordingly and/or asks any question about the changes.
It's been a week since the card table update is announced. Since there's only a few response about it, I guess it is alright to apply the changes just before Set 13 release? Though it might take a few days to apply the parameter changes.
There's also some changes to our Community Portal. I hope other contributors find it helpful.
First, I have updated the {{Card Table}} with a new style based on card tables used in Selector Wikia WIXOSS (special thanks to BlitzerRyuusei for providing the template).
This is essentially an upgrade to our old look, with several changes to be noted:
- effect is changed into text (the name provided in comprehensive rule).
- altname is added, to provide alternate translation for a card name (e.g. Karyobinga-Kalavinka or Braver from the Three Kingdom era).
- pr is deprecated. It's still appear for the sake of compatibility, but all information should be moved to the respective set/campaign pages.
- The illustrator info is now able to keep up to 10 entry (illust to illust10). However, only the first three entry (illust, illust2, illust3) is shown. The rest should went into the Gallery pages.
- Gallery page for Player cards now uses the name parameter instead of the page name (i.e. Azumi Kagamihara/Gallery instead of Azumi Kagamihara (card)/Gallery).
- For those who still are not aware, {{Diagram}} has been updated as well.
If you are using the source editor (you can set this by changing your user preferences), you can also test it by yourself. Just open any card pages and click the "Edit" button. Change the {{Card Table
line to {{Card Table/sandbox
and the |effect
parameter to |text
, and preview the page (do not save the page, as the template is only for testing).
Please note any kind of bugs that you found (also note the version of browser and operating system that you are using) and post it here. The new style is still not optimized for handheld devices so any report with handheld devices is truly appreciated. You may also gives any suggestion regarding the new style. The new version will be used once everyone give it a-ok. Until then, the older version is still in use.
I also have a plan to restore miscellaneous info about a card other than Gallery (e.g. FAQ) and give them personal/pseudo namespace (e.g. Gallery:[Card Name]) like the set lists. Please give your thought about this as well, since it may be useful someday.

Several changes in Booster 13: Wind of Change
- The card frame is updated with a new look.
- Changes in Point Campaign system. From Set 13 onwards, it will be "150P for 5 cards" instead of "100P for 3 cards". The "100P" point is now named "Congratulations!!", the old 100P is still treated as 100 Z/X Point for exchange.
- The amount of Hologram Rares in regular booster box is increased. A box now contains 6 C~R Holo and 1 SR Holo (or extra rarity) instead of 5 C~R Holo and 1 SR Holo.
- The IGR will be obsoleted and integrated with CVR to increase their value.
Regarding Z/X Point, it looks like a set now contains 5 Z/XR instead of 3, perhaps one color get one Z/XR.
Ruling for God Darmstadtium has opponent's Battery put the "returned" cards to Charge but you can still summon Darmstadtium. Understandable since Darmstadtium's return is a cost and not a condition.
Question is if you have the Battery link and summoned Junk, use its effect to "return" an opponent's Z/X only to be put to Charge instead by Battery, would the opponent still be able to summon a Cost 3 Z/X?
I'm assuming he can't since the second part of the effect has a 戻したならば" (if returned) condition, but Battery prevented that condition from being fulfilled by making the card go into Charge instead of being returned to hand.
1) What happens if i have Ras Dashen in play and my opponent plays animus and gets Maximum Lawrencium from trash? would maximum be able to return Ras Dashen to hand before Dashens skill triggers? would Dashen destroy maximum upon being put into play? or would both happen (maximum returning Dashen to play and Dashen destrying maximum)? and if the latter, which would happen 1st?
2) Are "always" abilities in effect all the time? i initially thought that they only work when the cards are in play, until i saw thorn queens ability. does that mean i can use tyrant blade to destroy my opponents orochi by removing another of his orochi from trash(when my opponent has less than 9 resource)?
- Also does having 2 Laevateinns in play give my attacking Z/X 6k?
3) Are ignition icons considered abilities? Just wondering if playing ignitions would trigger the new Berkeliums ability
thanks for always helping me out!
Here's an interesting question I saw: Say you have 14 Cost 7+ Z/X in Trash, and summon Animus A, use her effect to summon Animus B, Maximum Lawrencium, and Assistant Inspector Kazami (making you have 12 Cost 7+ Z/X in Trash). You then use Max Lawrencium's effect to bounce himself and Animus B, and then use Kazami's effect to discard Lawrencium (thus having 13 Cost 7+ Z/X in Trash), can you use Animus B's effect?
The answers I saw were a bit mixed so I'm not sure what the correct answer is.
This is an old topic, but I think we should discuss it again for future references.
Looking back at the page's history, the name (デスティニーベイン Desutinī Bein) were originally translated as "Destiny Bane". But it quickly changed to "Destiny Vein" due to Set 3 promotional video, which shows it as "Destiny Vein" around 0:23. Not long after that, we got another video. This time it is an episode of Heroic Saga, which featured that particular dragon and have "Destiny Bane" as its subtitle.
Now we have two different translation for her name, both of which are literally correct. And don't forget about the kanji on her name (滅獄 Metsugoku), which went back and forth between "Ruin-Hell" and "Ruin-Jail".
Please speak your thoughts about the name or if you have any suggestion about it.
Earlier, I mentioned about moving the free cards to their original card page as a sub-page (e.g. Cardname/Free). But after some consideration, should the free cards with different stats from the original were placed on a different page from the original? After all, both of them has the same name. The Japanese wiki (http://wikiwiki.jp/zxtcg/) has the both the free card and the original card combined on the same page for example.
And regarding the current illustrator info, should we keep the current style (illustrator name only), or write the full information as is?
Happy New Z/Xear!
First of all, thanks for all contributors for your contributions, both directly and indirectly to this wiki. Without your help and suggestion, this wiki might not made it this far.
Beside continuing all works from December, there are some updates that going to take place this year. All of them will be effective starting from January 22 (release date for Booster 11):
- Two new templates: {{Ruby}} and {{Flavor}}.
- Ruby is used as a shortcut for writing ruby tags. The syntax is {{Ruby|Text|Ruby Characters}}
- Flavor is used for card's flavor texts, especially for card with lots of different flavor (e.g. Player Cards). The syntax is {{Flavor|sets=Card Set Numbers|Flavor Texts|~Info~}} (the sets parameter is optional).
- The race and ignition parameter on the Card Table template is dropped. They are replaced with tribe and icon (e.g. Ignition OR Evol Seed), respectively. All cards should be updated accordingly.
- Dawn of Ten Heavens (暁十天 Akatsuki Jūtten) is now simply Akatsuki Jutten, their name now follow similar naming pattern to the Twelve Apostles (e.g. Akatsuki Jutten - Tahrir Hajes). The individual name will likely be updated in the future as soon as we found their respective namesake (likely to be Arabic or Jewish root).
- All free cards that differs from the original cards (less Power, no abilities, or ability with an "expire date") should be moved from their current page (e.g. CARDNAME (FS)) into their original card as a sub-page (e.g. CARDNAME/Free).
Other than the updates, there's also some ongoing works, sorted from the most important:
- Update (and translate, if possible) all card's flavor text, using the aforementioned {{Flavor}} & the less used {{Alt}}.
- Fix the rōmanization for all cards (using modified Hepburn).
- Create pages for all Z/X characters (complete with infobox & some bios).
- Also, find & upload high-res, clean artworks for every character.
- Replace all old sample images (240px width) with the newest one (260px width).
- Replace all card images in JPEG format with a newer one in PNG format if possible. Wile JPEG offer smaller filesize, PNG scales better compared to JPEG, especially for image with large resolution.
- Starting from January 22, all new images should be uploaded as PNG. Expect a proper image guideline in February.
- Create episode listing & synopsis for Z/X Ignition.
- Create documentation for every templates.
Once again, thank you and have a good year!

does the card work if i play it before moving a unit around?
for example, i play this event then use ludwigs ability twice to return 2 of my opponents units to the deck
Card Text Template
They will be two new templates for card text.
- Template:Ability - Replace the old ability type indicator ([Boot], [Auto], [Always], and [Event]). The syntax is {{Ability|Ability Type}}.
- Template:Cost - Replace the old Cost indicator ([Sleep] and [X Color]). The syntax is {{Cost|Sleep}} for Sleeping cost or {{Cost|Color|X}} for regular X color payment cost.
Card Translation
- Small changes regarding character substitution.
Japanese Character | Substituted (Translated) Character | Notes |
---|---|---|
「」 | " " | Referring a card name, no change |
[ ] | [ ] | Referring a Tribe (previously Race) name. Changed from " " |
< > | < > | Cost indicator, no change Update: The cost bracket should be bolded |
- この能力は…しかプレイできない = "This ability can only be played..."
- …あなたのターンに… = "...during your turn."
- 1ターンにX回 = "... X per turn." (X is once, twice, thrice, etc.)
- …ならば and …場合 = "If..."
- X枚以上 = "X or greater" (previously "X or more")
- 以上 = "greater"
- Update: For now, use this exclusively for Cost (e.g. Cost X or greater). If the text counts the number of cards, use more like the previous translation (e.g. X or more cards in...) except for some cases
- X枚以下 = "X or less"
- "with" is now only used to translate 持つ (possess) or 含む (contain)
- The translation for automatic ability trigger that require yo to do something (…よい。…ならば) is changed back to "you may... If you do"
- 相手は…を支払ってよい。…を支払わなかったならば = "your opponent may pay ... If your opponent does not"
- 相手は自分… = "your opponent... his or her..." (previously "your opponent... their...")
- Wording for "appear" (登場, literally entry or appearance) is likely to be changed in the future due to complicated text
Miscellaneous
These changes will not take place immediately before any discussion take place.
- "Race" (種族) will be changed to "Tribe" per Z/X Activation Guide translation
- Some (if not majority of) card names (especially from the older sets and NIS Extra pack) will be updated
- "Demon" (魔人) (as in most Diabolus' name) will be changed to "Devil". While "Demon" is not incorrect, Devil is the most appropriate translation since "Diabolus" itself means Devil in Latin
- "Dragon Maiden" (竜の巫女) will be changed to "Dragon Miko" due to "Dramiko Quintet"
- Name order for character will be changed from traditional Japanese naming order (family name, given name) to western naming order (given name, family name) since Broccoli use the later in signed cards
- All romanization for Japanese name will be updated with modified Hepburn as the standard
As usual, please speak your thought abut the changes here.
How to translate this?
置いたフォースがカード名に「アルル」を含むカードならば、
Ariael only needs a part of the Force's name to be アルル which means Were-L'ours would qualify thanks to her Japanese name (パンダ娘ウェアルルス).
